Finding a self-publishing break??

  • by

So, I just did some more research, as I am always looking for more ways to get our author’s books out into places where they will be found.  I came across another company and have started looking into getting our books carried by them.  However, when I was looking into it I looked at a document they had ready to send out to any poor self-published author who dares to try and get their book published.  The document said, in a nutshell, don’t even bother sending in your book if you used, “Authorhouse, iUniverse, Pendium Publishing House, Pleasant Word, Publish America, Xlibris, Xulon, etc.”

Wow.  If I was a self-published individual using one of those services, I would be just floored that the company would issue such a blanket rejection – without even looking at the product! Why do they do that?

From a company standpoint, any author can publish their own book of course, but there aren’t any guarantees that the book is even edited, let alone worth reading.  When you have an actual publishing company who published books that are worthwhile, and edited to industry norms, then the bookstores can safely purchase some of those books in confidence – without even having to spend the time reading them.  You see, there’s the catch.  Bookstores don’t have the time or resources to read every book that comes their way.  So they rely on the names they come to trust as ‘good publishing houses.’

McKinney Publishing is a developing, quality publishing house.  We take great pride in our publications, and we strive to ensure that all our books are the kind of quality workmanship that bookstores are looking for.  Although we are still small enough that we don’t carry the clout of some of the big players (you know who they are), we are also small enough that we are accessible to the average author who had a God given message to get out there.  We can’t guarantee sales, but we can guarantee a quality publication that you can be sure will make you proud.
