When writing books it is a very good idea to consider who is going to be reading the books before you even start. Your book may be the best one out there on a subject, but if no one can understand it, it won’t do anyone any good.
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry wrote a play called The Little Prince in 1943. This little book became a huge success despite the fact that the story line begins with crashed pilot who is asked to draw a sheep in the Sahara Desert. What’s the secret? The main character in the play comments that a book is not good unless is has lots of dialogue and pictures. True to form, the book called The Little Prince is chock-full of dialogue and pictures, and attracted readers both young and old.
What about your audience? Are they going to find the topic more interesting with dialogue and pictures? or perhaps anecdotes and humorous illustrations? What kind of books do you enjoy reading? If you start with these ideas, then you will be better grounded when you start writing – and your book will be much more interesting to write, as well as to read!
