Should Christians celebrate a Jewish Passover??

  • by
Passover is an annual celebration for the Jewish people that has been celebrated since the very first “Passover” when the Angel of Death “passed over” the children of Israel when they were in Egypt.  This holiday is one of the most cherished events for Jews, even today.  However, for Christians as well, Passover can be a very meaningful time for several reasons.

First, God is the same today, yesterday, and forever (Heb 13:8).  It was Him who instituted the Passover, and we can learn about Him and His ways when we study what He instituted for men on the earth. He also indicated in Exodus 12:17 that this celebration is to continue “forever.”  Secondly, the symbolism of the Passover is very explicitly (and excitingly) foreshadowing the first (and second) coming of Jesus on the earth.  Jews celebrate this holiday out of obligation, but Christians can celebrate it with understanding.  Thirdly, you are already celebrating the Passover regularly, when you take the “Lord’s Supper” or “Communion!”  The ‘last supper’ of Jesus, which we remember during the ‘Lord’s supper’ was, in fact, a Passover service!  Our celebration of it is a (very) shortened form of this event.  By learning about the ‘full’ Passover celebration, we will understand even more the significance of what is meant by what we do as a Church body on Sunday morning. Celebrating the Passover as a Christian can be a very meaningful way to enrich your understanding of the God we serve and the heritage we have been given.

McKinney Publishing is very proud to feature a resource for Christians who wish to deepen their understanding of this holiday in a way that is meaningful, even to those without a Jewish background.  Passover for the Rest of Us is a great ‘all inclusive’ reference which will walk you through the process step by step.  Order your copy today before the Passover arrives!  (April 10, 2017 is the next one by the way…)
